Atlas Copco will use the Water Equipment Show to demonstrate how its energy-efficient technologies deliver measurable reductions in carbon emissions across the UK water sector. The sector remains one of the most energy-intensive in the country, and with the start of AMP8 and Ofwat’s latest regulatory framework for 2025–2030, water companies are under increasing pressure to modernise and implement more sustainable infrastructure. Against this backdrop, Atlas Copco will showcase a range of air and blower solutions designed to improve efficiency across water and wastewater treatment applications.

Aeration and compressed air systems remain a significant contributor to energy use in water and wastewater treatment, making them a key focus area for improvement. Atlas Copco’s approach centres on matching the right technology to each application, supported by real-time data, system optimisation and high-efficiency machine design.

“Water companies are entering a new phase where energy performance and carbon reduction are being measured more closely than ever,” said Kirk Lyons, sales manager, OLP at Atlas Copco. “As part of the latest regulatory cycle, there is a clear expectation to deliver demonstrable efficiency gains. That puts greater emphasis on both equipment performance and how systems are managed in practice. Our focus is on helping operators understand where energy is being used and how it can be reduced in a practical, measurable way.”

Visitors to Stand G12 will be able to explore Atlas Copco’s latest high-speed turbo and screw blower technology. The ZB high-speed turbo range has been expanded with new impeller configurations, enabling more precise system sizing and improved energy performance across a wider range of applications. Alongside this, the ZS6 and ZS6 VSD screw blowers offer high flow rates and operational flexibility for demanding treatment processes, while the updated ZS4 and ZS4 VSD models deliver further gains in efficiency alongside reduced noise levels.

Atlas Copco will also highlight the role of temporary and rental equipment in supporting operational continuity at water and wastewater treatment facilities. Through its Atlas Copco Rental division and distribution network, the company can supply oil-free compressors, blowers and generators for both planned maintenance and emergency situations requiring 24/7 availability and rapid deployment. This includes applications such as aeration, instrument air and sludge digestion, where maintaining a reliable air supply is critical to process stability.

To help operators better understand and reduce their energy consumption, Atlas Copco will also highlight its iiTrak data logging service. By capturing real-time performance data from existing equipment, the system provides a detailed energy assessment, helping identify opportunities for optimisation and future system upgrades.

System-level optimisation will also be a key focus, with Atlas Copco’s Optimizer 4.0 on display. Designed to manage installations with multiple machines, the system enables more efficient control across air networks, with the option to integrate with site-wide SCADA systems to support coordinated, data-driven operation.

Rather than promoting a single technology, Atlas Copco will demonstrate how a combination of high-efficiency equipment, detailed performance insight and advanced control can help water companies reduce energy use and support their wider carbon reduction objectives.

The Water Equipment Show takes place in May, bringing together suppliers, contractors and water companies from across the UK to explore the latest developments in equipment, systems and services for the sector.
