A popular British brewery has partnered with Kemtile to modernise its production facility with a hygienic, heavy-duty flooring system engineered to withstand the demanding conditions found within modern brewing operations while providing an attractive finish for visitors.
With over 40 years’ experience delivering industrial flooring solutions to the food and beverage sector, Kemtile was selected to design and install a complete flooring package within a six-week programme.
The project included the installation of 60m of bespoke stainless steel drainage channels, designed to manage process water, washdown operations and routine cleaning while providing a robust, corrosion-resistant drainage solution capable of performing in aggressive brewery environments.
To complement the drainage installation, Kemtile installed 350m² of 18mm Argelith MV-Tech industrial ceramic hexagonal tiles using the Kagetec installation system.
Industrial ceramic tiling was selected because it offers significant long-term performance advantages in brewery environments where floors are continually exposed to demanding operating conditions.
Unlike many conventional flooring systems, industrial ceramic tiles provide:
- Exceptional resistance to impact from dropped kegs, casks, pallet trucks and mobile plant.
- Excellent chemical resistance against brewery cleaning chemicals, caustic solutions, acids, sanitisers and process liquids.
- High resistance to thermal shock caused by hot washdowns followed by cold water cleaning.
- A dense, impervious surface that does not absorb liquids, helping maintain hygiene standards.
- Long-term slip resistance, even in consistently wet processing environments.
- Excellent resistance to steam cleaning and frequent washdown regimes.
- A service life measured in decades when correctly designed and installed.
- Low life-cycle maintenance costs, reducing disruption and the need for future replacement.
Mike Sleight from Kemtile, who led the project, said: “Brewery flooring is exposed to some of the harshest operating conditions within the food and beverage industry.
“Floors must withstand constant traffic, aggressive cleaning regimes, thermal cycling, chemical exposure and impact loading without compromising hygiene or safety.
He added: “By combining specialist stainless steel drainage systems with industrial ceramic tiling, we were able to deliver a robust, hygienic flooring solution designed to provide reliable performance for many years.”
The installation was carefully phased to minimise disruption, allowing brewery tours to continue throughout the project while maintaining safe access around the works.
Kemtile delivers complete turnkey flooring solutions for breweries across the UK, including site surveys, specification, drainage design, floor construction, industrial ceramic tiling, resin flooring, project management and installation.
Its brewing experience ranges from independent craft breweries through to major multinational producers.
