Problem: GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) was using manual procedures for Dry Powder Inhaler testing, but wanted to find a way of increasing throughput.

Solution: A successful collaboration between Astech Projects and the pharmaceutical company has resulted in the implementation of bespoke analytical technology platforms within the GSK inhaled testing laboratories.

Using Astech’s automation expertise, the platforms deliver effective, efficient and safe testing. In comparison to the manual procedures previously employed, they have increased throughput and reduced the time taken to perform 100 samples and minimised analytical variability. Also, use of the automated platforms has decreased the volume of solvent needed for testing, reducing the waste streams. A poster detailing the project has been produced.
