New modules and UMTS routers extend the range of solutions offered by Siemens Industry Automation & Drive Technologies in the field of remote access. The TIM 3V-IE DNP3 and TIM 4R-IE DNP3 enable controllers of the Simatic S7-300 and S7-400 series to be controlled and monitored over different communication networks.
The modules support the open DNP3 protocol for communication with the control centre. Extensive diagnostics functions are available including logging the sent and received message frames. It is also possible to program S7 controllers that are connected to the modules remotely over an IP-based network which reduces the number of costly on-site service visits.
UMTS routers Scalance M873 and M875 have been designed for remote access solutions in classical tele-service and telecontrol applications. Scalance M875 features a VPN function and a firewall. Due to the integrated security functions, Scalance M875 supports the protected connection of distributed automation cells to a control centre over the mobile network.
