We are hearing lots of good news about the revival of British manufacturing at the moment, and it’s always pleasing to see examples of where British expertise has proved its worth in overseas projects. A case in point is the use of British cooling and chilling technology, which is enjoying success in a plastic extrusion application in the Gulf region.

The exhibition calender is starting to get busier, with Southern Manufacturing & Electronics, and Maintec 2014, taking place in February and March respectively. We preview both events, outlining the reasons why it may be a good idea to attend.

This month’s industry focus looks at food processing and packaging – stories include the use of centralised vacuum systems in Modified Atmosphere Packaging applications, the benefits of sourcing an expert in water management instead of trying to manage the systems yourself, and how mechanical and pneumatic conveyors are producing the ‘Jammie Dodger’s’ newest variation – the ‘Choccie Dodger’!

And finally, we look at the developments in one of the process industry’s stalwart technologies, the flowmeter. It may be an established technology, but there’s still lots going on and plenty to talk about.
