Bilfinger Industrial Services (BIS), a division of the engineering and services group Bilfinger, has appointed Andrew Richardson as Managing Director.

He joins from EDF where he was director of thermal generation overseeing the operations of two of its 2000MW power stations, which together provided around 35 per cent of the energy company’s annual output.

Andrew is a Fellow at the Chartered Institute of Management and qualified engineer who has also held roles at Alstom and American Electric Power over his 20 year career in the energy and power sectors.

In his new position, Andrew will support BIS as it targets further growth in the petrochemical, energy storage and transmission markets. He will also oversee the introduction of a number of new initiatives on service delivery and the firm’s strong HSEQ performance and compliance record.

BIS provides a range of engineering and industrial services to the UK process, petrochemical and power industries. Its customers include some of the largest energy and industrial businesses in the UK such as BP, Essar, National Grid and United Utilities.

Commenting on Andrew’s appointment, Duncan Hall, Executive President of Bilfinger Oil and Gas, said: “Andrew has a reputation for providing clear strategic vision, clarity of purpose and delivery. He brings with him extensive experience of organisational turnarounds in complex asset based organisations and real sector insight and knowledge, based on his experience working client side.

“His appointment gives the team additional firepower as we continue to target new growth opportunities and significantly strengthens our experience and client understanding in key areas like nuclear, coal, oil & gas and renewables.”

BIS is one of five Bilfinger UK businesses, which also includes Bilfinger Salamis, a provider of maintenance services to the offshore energy industries; electrical engineering provider, Bilfinger Industrial Automation Services; real estate advisory firm Bilfinger GVA; and integrated facilities management provider Bilfinger Europa. In total, the group employs more than 9,000 people across the UK generating revenues of £700m annually. The UK is the second largest market for Bilfinger globally.
