Forty years supplying electric actuators to ERZ Entsorgung + Recycling Zurich [Disposal and Recycling Zurich] is marked by AUMA. Actuators from AUMA’s first type range, SA 4 – 70, have operated reliably for this long-term customer for four decades through to the present day. Currently around 500 AUMA actuators are deployed at three combined heat and power plants and a 160 km district heating network operated by ERZ.
With the introduction of a Siemens T3000 process control system, the actuators – which are dispersed across different plant sections – are gradually being replaced by AUMA’s latest generation SA .2 actuators. Intelligent AC .2 controls offered by the new generation actuators, combined with PROFIBUS DP, allow for direct integration into the DCS.
Reliability, quality and the extensive life of AUMA products are reported by ERZ as key factors supporting the long-term cooperation between the two organisations. Commenting on the support provided by AUMA, Roland Strebel, Head of the Electronics/DCS group at ERZ said: “We are more than satisfied, both with the products and the expert after-sales service offered by AUMA.”
With one wood-fuelled and two waste-fuelled heat and power plants, ERZ generates district heating for an equivalent of 170,000 households and provides power for around 50,000 households in the Zurich region. Equipped with latest incineration and filter technology, the heating plants are among the most efficient installations in Switzerland.
