It’s clear that businesses in the manufacturing sector are looking to freshen up their workforce this spring, with job vacancies increasing by 5.3% last month. That’s according to the latest statistics from CV-Library, the UK’s leading independent job site, which compared data from March 2018, with February 2018.
The data explored fluctuations in pay, jobs and applications throughout March and the findings suggest that businesses across the industry were feeling confident last month. In fact, , the industry was one of the few to see an increase advertised salaries last month, rising by 4.2% when compared with data from February 2018.
Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of CV-Library, comments on the findings: “It’s positive to see that businesses are continuing to drive their recruitment efforts this spring, following a strong start to the year. What’s more, the increase in manufacturing vacancies suggests that business confidence is growing, offering plenty of exciting opportunities for job hunters in the sector.”
However, application rates in the sector saw a slight decrease of 1.6% month-on-month, suggesting that candidate appetite is not keeping pace with employer demand. Biggins concludes: “It’s clear that businesses were pulling out all the stops to attract talented candidates last month. This is positive to see given that businesses in the industry are facing the backlash of a widening skills gap. As we approach the second quarter of 2018 we hope to see candidate confidence pick back up.”
