Magnomatics, the international developer of magnetic transmissions and ultra-compact motors, has announced the appointment of Dave Latimer as managing director. Dave’s appointment comes following the departure of Chris Kirby, who was managing director for over nine years.
Mr. Kirby founded Magnomatics in 2005 as a university spin out and led its growth through concept development and prototyping phases to its current position where it is engaged in product development with a highly skilled staff of 30. He will continue to support the company on an-ad hoc basis.
Magnomatics is currently engaged in a variety of markets, including hybrid and electric vehicles, renewables, marine propulsion, aerospace and oil & gas, all sectors in which Dave Latimer has significant experience.
Dave joined Magnomatics in February 2013 with a focus on developing the market for the company’s MAGSPLIT product. MAGSPLIT offers significant efficiency and noise reduction benefits for hybrid vehicle powertrains and Magnomatics is currently engaged with a number of interested vehicle manufacturers.
Prior to Magnomatics Dave Latimer was CEO of EVO Electric an electrical machines spin out company from Imperial College. Under his leadership EVO gained a strong position in the hybrid and electric vehicle sector and in July 2012 EVO completed a deal with GKN Driveline who are now commercialising the EVO technology.

Before EVO Electric Dave Latimer was chairman of Bluebird Vehicles, a manufacturer of low floor accessible buses. He started his career with Rolls Royce. He has also run a number of well-known engineering and manufacturing companies including Weir Valves and Controls, Bedford Pumps, Howden Wade and Brush HMA b.v.
