Calling all manufacturers: Sign up now and open your doors to inspire the next generation of talent

Manufacturers across the UK are being urged to sign up for National Manufacturing Day (NMD) 2026, as Make UK opens registrations for what promises to be the sector’s biggest nationwide open-house yet.

Taking place later this year on Thursday, 24 September, National Manufacturing Day will for a fifth time see hundreds of companies open their doors to schools, colleges, universities and the wider public – offering a unique, behind-the-scenes look at modern manufacturing and the exciting careers it offers.

Now firmly established as a flagship event in the industry calendar, NMD gives visitors the chance to experience first-hand how manufacturers operate, explore cutting-edge technologies, and discover the diverse opportunities available across the sector – from engineering and aerospace to food, defence and advanced materials.

A nationwide celebration of UK manufacturing

National Manufacturing Day brings together businesses from across the country in a coordinated celebration of UK industry. Participating organisations will showcase their operations, highlight innovation, and demonstrate the real-world impact of manufacturing on everyday life.

Building on the success of previous years, the 2026 campaign aims to reach even more young people and career changers, helping to address skills gaps and strengthen the future workforce.

Strong national support

Make UK will once again work in partnership with key government departments to maximise engagement. Events will be promoted to schools, colleges and training providers nationwide, making it easy for educators and students to find and attend local opportunities.

Jobcentres will also support the initiative, helping connect jobseekers with participating employers and facilitating recruitment activity where appropriate.

Plan ahead for maximum impact

With schools and colleges often planning their academic calendars months in advance, manufacturers are strongly encouraged to begin outreach as early as possible to secure visits and maximise attendance.

Join the movement

National Manufacturing Day is a powerful opportunity to showcase the innovation, creativity and career potential within UK manufacturing—and to inspire the next generation to be part of it.
