A Mono Compact C progressing cavity pump provided by NOV has been specified as a replacement for a previous Mono pump that had operated without any problems for over 30 years

The new pump is being used in a fertilizer production process by GrowHow – a fertilizer manufacturer and supplier to the chemical process industry.
 
GrowHow had been using an original SH80 pump for a demanding effluent transfer duty, which had given good service: “The original pump was still working well, but unfortunately it had been discontinued and GrowHow decided to upgrade to the latest pump design,” explained NOV account manager Paul Green. “We proposed a Compact C range pump as the most appropriate modern alternative and it proved to be an excellent choice.”
 
“We needed something which combined excellent suction lift performance with the ability to handle high suspended solids content,” said GrowHow’s Chris Smith. “It also had to be able to withstand the very aggressive nature of the effluent, so that it could provide us with a high level of reliability. The new pump has fitted the bill perfectly and is providing even better performance than the old SH80 unit.”
 
The Compact C range pump is being used to pump nutrient-rich effluent at the GrowHow production plant at Ince, near Chester. Driven by a fixed-speed gearbox, it operates at 245rpm, handles a 3.25 bar pressure and provides a 19m3/h capacity. It draws the effluent from an interceptor pit on a 3m lift, and transfers it over 100m to a holding sump. The effluent is then used as fertilizer by local farmers. GrowHow mounted the Compact C pump on a trolley so that it can be moved around the site to draw effluent from different sump tanks.
 
The progressive cavity action of the Compact C range pumps means they are suitable for applications where slurries, viscous or shear sensitive fluids must be handled, and significant suction lift capabilities are required. They can operate at low speeds, which helps reduce wear on abrasive applications, and their high-pressure capabilities eliminate the need to use a series of pumps, when pumping over long distances.annual saving of over €50,000.
