With the summer well on its way, there’s no better time than now to take a close look at the temperature control systems for food and beverage process applications. It really does pay to be prepared and protected when the warmer weather hits. By acting now, you can have the systems in place and be able to minimise the risk of breakdowns or impact on production performance and product quality.

But the need for accurate temperature control systems is a year-round 24/7 operation for ICS Cool Energy, the £50m international market-leading specialists with particular expertise in the food and beverage industry developed over 30 years.

Bespoke solutions

With an unrivalled range of options, bespoke solutions are created for many types of businesses from boutique, specialist producers and growers to major international brands and all sizes of businesses in-between.

The range of solutions includes new equipment design, installation, commissioning and regular servicing to maintain process equipment in optimum condition. ICS Cool Energy also has the UK’s largest hire fleet that’s a fast fix in the case of emergencies or for long term rental as well as short term back up such as additional cold storage facilities during the summer or at peak production times such as pre-Christmas.

Added convenience of use is also built in to ICS Cool Energy’s solutions with options including business funding, extended warranties, remote monitoring and alerts delivered to key personnel or ICS Cool Energy engineers in the event of a system’s temperature deviation or failure.

Energy bills cut by up to 70%

Whether the solution is equipment purchase or hire, the common denominator is advanced performance and energy efficiency. In fact, by using the high performance equipment with free cooling technology (making the most of the freely available ambient air) it’s possible to slash energy bills by up to 70%.

Typical Industry Applications

With special experience and understanding the needs of the food and beverage industries including protecting the integrity and safety of the end product, ICS Cool Energy’s solutions are in use across a wide variety of applications including:

  • Temperature control for ready meal production
  • Bottle cooling pre-filling, distilling and wine production
  • Pasteuriser cooling for milk, juice and dairy
  • Temperature controlled storage
  • Cooling potable water and non-ferrous systems
  • Cold storage areas
  • Temper frozen goods
  • Fish farming
  • Cooling brine solutions
  • Warehouse climate control
  • Crop picking

Temperature Control System Protection

Widely used in industrial cooling applications worldwide, glycol is an anti-freeze solution with built-in inhibitors to prevent damage to systems and equipment that can result in production downtime. It’s the preferred alternative to using mains water in heating or cooling systems.

Ultimately glycol is about ensuring that manufacturing and production delivers optimum performance, but it’s important to ensure the correct products and components are used as these will have a dramatic effect on system efficiency.

Optimum protection is delivered by choosing a glycol product which incorporates corrosion inhibitors for extra reassurance and protection against rust, corrosion and freeze damage. These inhibitors help to neutralise the pH balance and prevent the formation of bacteria as well as other destructive and corrosive activity.  See what happens when the wrong mix of glycol is used in a system here

Important new development for food processing safety

This year, ICS Cool Energy has expanded the range of glycols and introduced an important new development in food processing safety with the introduction of FlowCool-FS. It is a food and beverage glycol fluid that’s fully accredited by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) for use within secondary refrigeration systems, where accidental contact with food is a possibility.

The new FlowCool-FS glycol is a non-toxic mono propylene glycol (MPG) with a temperature range of -35°C to 120°C. It uses non-toxic additives designed in line with NSF and US FDA criteria. If there is any incidental direct or indirect contact with food during processing or production applications, there is minimal risk to human health.

Peace of Mind and NSF Approval

Brent Hall, Technical Manager at ICS Cool Energy said; “This is an important development and a new product with NSF approval that brings extra peace of mind for food and beverage manufacturers.

“It has been developed by a team of skilled chemists, and is independently tested and fully accredited with NSF approval, meaning that FlowCool-FS gives food and beverage manufacturers one hundred per cent confidence for use in any application where accidental contact with food is a possibility.”
