Pressure, vacuum and gas flow measurement and control specialists, Chell Instruments, are proudly celebrating a significant milestone as their Director, Nick Broadley, marks three decades with the business.

Over the past 30 years, Nick has worked his way up through the business and played a key role in strengthening Chell’s manufacturing and engineering capabilities, transforming the business from a reseller into a leading manufacturer of gas measurement and control instrumentation.

“From Product Manager, to General Manager and eventually Director – the last 30 years here at Chell has been fantastic! As my role has evolved, so too has Chell, and I’m proud to have played a part in developing our in-house manufacturing capabilities to help steer the business towards where we are today” says Nick, Director at Chell Instruments.

Nick joined Chell in October 1996, he was initially responsible for the pressure scanning products, which as a relatively small but expanding area of the business.

After a couple of years, Nick was promoted to General Manager and took responsibility for Chell’s wider manufacturing and calibration departments. In 2001 Nick became Director – a position he has now held for 25 years.

Established in 1976, Chell Instruments are a leading manufacturer and supplier of specialist gas measurement and control equipment used by leading aerospace, pharmaceuticals and motorsport companies, including Formula 1.

When Nick joined in the mid-1990s, approximately 80% of the business involved reselling measurement and control products manufactured by other companies outside of the UK.

Recognising the limitations this had on technology, product development and the ability to tailor instruments to their customers’ needs, Nick advocated for Chell to begin manufacturing their own products in-house.

“It was always my desire to manufacture products at Chell. With our experienced and knowledgeable hardware and software teams, we were in the perfect position to develop up-to-date products that were better suited to our customers’ applications. And that’s exactly what we achieved!” says Nick.

Nick played a key role in developing Chell’s engineering and manufacturing capabilities, helping drive the launch of their first Chell-made pressure scanner range – the nanoDAQ-LT – in 2018.

The nanoDAQ-LT range has since sold in their thousands and continues to be regarded as industry-leading technology for Formula 1 applications.

Similarly, Nick also helped drive the development of the 2416 industrial pressure scanner. Following years of extensive research and development, the 2416 launched in 2025 and introduced groundbreaking features and capabilities.

Both product launches are regarded as a major milestone for Chell, reflecting Nick’s long-standing commitment to the capability and success of the business.

Today, Chell manufactures approximately 80-90% of the products they sell.

“I’m proud of how far Chell has come over the last 30 years and the part I’ve been able to play in that journey. We’ve built strong in-house capabilities and developed products that make a real difference to our customers. I’m looking forward to seeing what more we can achieve in the near future” concludes Nick.
