Leaders in gas measurement and control solutions, Chell Instruments, are celebrating their 50th year in business.
To mark the occasion, Chell closed their office on the 17th July to celebrate with their team – enjoying a day of activities, food and drinks.
“For five decades, we’ve worked incredibly hard to lead the way in pressure, vacuum and gas flow measurement and control technology, and its all thanks to our team – past and present. So, we’re going to ask everyone to put their tools down for the day and spend it together, with activities including sailing, thatching, den-building, great food and an evening celebration” says Jamie Shanahan, Director of Chell Instruments.
In 1976 in North Walsham, Norfolk, Chell Instruments was founded by Ron Mitchell with the vision of creating measurement technology designed by engineers, for engineers.
Over the past 50 years, the company has continually refined its products to deliver exceptional levels of precision, accuracy and dependability.
Operating from their UK facility and with measurement assurance provided by our ISO17025 accredited UKAS calibration laboratory, Chell manufacture all their products in-house and deliver some of the lowest uncertainties available.
Many of Chell’s solutions have been developed in direct response to the needs of demanding sectors, including aerospace, motorsport, pharmaceuticals and energy.
“From helping Formula 1 teams optimise aerodynamics through wind tunnel testing to supporting performance and efficiency improvements in jet engines used in both military and commercial aircraft, our products have a long history of driving innovation. And, that legacy continues today, with ongoing investment into our technology to ensure our solutions remain at the forefront of the industry.” adds Jamie.
In 2020, Chell Instruments became part of SDI Group (formally Scientific Digital Imaging) which owns more than fifteen companies who design and manufacture products for use in imaging, sensing and control applications.
As of 2026, the company has recently celebrated their most successful financial year to date, achieving highest turnover to date, multiple new product launches, support to university engineering programs and recognition with manufacturing awards.
Today, the company is led by Directors Jamie Shanahan and Nick Broadley.
“We’re incredibly proud of what the team has achieved and would like to thank every member of staff, customer and partner for making the last 50 years possible!” concludes Jamie.
