Low-flow specialists, Bronkhorst, report they are still discovering innovative new applications for their technology, despite already boasting almost 25 years’ experience in the UK.

First established in Britain in 2002, Bronkhorst are experts in technology which measures and controls low-flowing liquids or gases in a range of manufacturing and research processes.

And, despite now being in their 25th year in the UK, the range of products, applications and sectors they support continues to grow.

“From food to pharmaceuticals, microchips to cars, petrochemicals to scientific research, low-flowing liquids and gases are essential in so many areas. With innovation alive and well in the UK, we’re increasingly supporting clients with new and exciting projects” says Marc Wellington, General Manager of Bronkhorst UK.

Low-flowing liquids and gases are frequently used in many areas of manufacturing, with common examples including food additives and ingredients for modern medications.

Named after the town in the Netherlands where the company began in 1981, Bronkhorst are the only dedicated specialists in low-flow control and measurement in the UK.

“As we’re entirely committed to low-flow technology, we can provide cutting edge and unique solutions when conventional technology has often reached its limits” adds Marc.

For processes which need to control liquids with confidence, Bronkhorst design and manufacture liquid flow meters and controllers which can deliver both a continuous supply and individual dosing.

In addition, Bronkhorst’s gas flow meters and controllers handle flows from 0.014 ml/min up to 11m3/h – low rates of gas which require high levels of accuracy.

“From microfluidic applications to demanding industrial applications, our technology provides precise measurement and control for stable and efficient processes. Once associated mostly with areas like food, drugs and chemicals, our technology now plays a role in almost every industry, product or technology delivered in the UK” notes Marc.

One of the innovative ways in which Bronkhorst technology is applied includes dosing trace amounts of elements (including phosphorus, boron, gallium and arsenic) which alter the electrical properties of silicon in microchip manufacturing.

For maximum accuracy, many of Bronkhorst’s products use Coriolis technology which directly measures mass flow, fluid density and temperature by detecting the twisting forces (the Coriolis effect) within the gas or liquid.

This delivers exceptionally consistent dosing for processes including filling batteries, making powerful pharmaceuticals, life-sciences research and the manufacturing of electronics for the latest technology.

As well as designing and manufacturing unique products, Bronkhorst also offer technical application engineering, user training courses, calibration and after-sales service from their UK base in Newmarket, Suffolk.

Bronkhorst also have an online ‘Knowledge Base’ which provides information and advice on how to use their technology within many applications and environments.

“In almost 25 years in the UK, the variety of sectors we support has grown to touch almost every area of modern life and industry. As we look ahead, we’re excited by the pace of British innovation and our privileged position to help support it with low-flow technology” concludes Marc.
