Designed to meet the performance and function requirements of machine automation applications, Mitsubishi Electric has introduced the L series PLC. The PLC bridges the gap between the FX compact PLC and iQ platform PAC in a compact, modular, rack-free package. By combining benefits from both ranges, the modular controller is said to increase the range of functionality traditionally associated wit mid-range PLCs.

All features and functions needed for sophisticated automated machines are built into the CPU?as standard, minimising hardware, saving panel space and engineering costs. The L series CPU?provides 24 points of onboard I/O, a 2-channel high speed counter, 2-axes of positioning, pulse catch and interrupt functions, Ethernet connectivity and built-in data logging all as standard.

One of the features of the L series is easy expandability. The integrated  backplane means that expansion modules can simply snap-on to the CPU without the need for a base unit, with the assembly mounting on a standard DIN rail. The system can be expanded up to a total of 40 expansion modules.

For ease of programming, the L series is compatible with iQ Works and GX Works2 software, simplifying set-up, configuration and maintenance.
