mettler From brand protection to plant optimisation: new eGuide explores evolving role of vision inspectionMettler-Toledo has published a new eGuide that outlines the major advances in industrial vision inspection systems, making them crucial components in the connected factories of the future.

Vision inspection technology has become a common sight in food manufacturing, where it is used to confirm packaging integrity, confirm that labels are positioned correctly and that they contain the right information. However, technical development of vision systems has seen them grow from performing a function of brand protection to a more encompassing role related to productivity and overall equipment effectiveness.

Joanna Mooberry of Mettler-Toledo explains: “Vision inspection technology is evolving rapidly. Our new eGuide gives a concise account of the latest developments and the benefits they can deliver for food manufactures – particularly in the areas of improved accuracy, data capture and connectivity.”

Vision Systems: Improved Production Efficiencies demonstrates how vision systems have evolved from reactive pieces of equipment that impacted operational efficiency into the ultimate optimization tools. Taking the Mettler-Toledo CIVcoresoftware as an example, the eGuide goes on to explain how new developments in software are delivering more intuitive, configurable vision systems that provide a crucial building block for the implementation of Industry 4.0 principles and strategies.

There is also an explanation of the new CIVCore Dot Print Tool, which has the ability to compensate for distortion due to movement on the production line or uneven surfaces. This greatly improves accuracy, particularly in challenging applications such as the scanning and capture of data on dot matrix labels. More predictable reading of inkjet labels enables packagers to automatically reject any misprints in the manufacturing facility – reworking the products onsite and eliminating any recalls that might otherwise have occurred.

Summaries of the main applications for vision systems and the many ways in which the technology delivers an excellent return on investment are also included.
