SGS, the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company, has announced that it will participate at the Recycling and Waste Management Exhibition (RWM) on 11–12 September at NEC, Birmingham. The UK’s largest trade show for recycling and waste management, RWM, is expected to attract some 12,000 professionals from across the recycling and waste industry. Experts from SGS will be available at Stand R27 to discuss ways of improving environmental performance in order to meet sustainability goals, comply with environmental legislation, enhance reputation and in many instances, increase profitability.

In addition, Vladimir Tabakovic, SGS’ ISO 14001 Product Manager, will take the stage to present on the requirements and benefits of certification in the highly competitive waste and recycling sector.

Every year, organizations must meet the new and increasingly strict requirements of the heavily regulated recycling and waste management industry, with environmental performance and sustainability being key areas of focus.

SGS can help your organisation achieve and maintain compliance with the relevant legislation and standards whilst reducing environmental impact and improving reputation. The company offers a range of audit and verification services including certification to ISO 14001, the international standard specifying the requirements for an environmental management system (EMS). An EMS documents the processes, procedures and responsibilities for achieving environmental policies and objectives.

Vladimir explains: “The efficient and compliant management of waste and recycling is becoming ever more complex. This complexity has brought a massively increasing burden on organizations but achieving ISO 14001 enables them to put in place and maintain an EMS that covers every situation and eventuality. For example, environmental protection is given considerably more emphasis in ISO 14001:2015, over the standard’s previous version and this is an even more ambitious target to achieve.”

Vladimir continues: “However, there are other important benefits, some of the key ones being economic. For example, putting by-products of waste disposal to productive use instead of releasing them into and damaging the environment, can result not only in energy savings, but potentially the ability to profit from recycling and this is certainly a contribution that the waste and recycling sectors brings to the community and the businesses.”

“Also, many customers and investors alike are now demanding formal environmental certification. These are all considerations that can positively impact the bottom line as well as ethical considerations.”

Tabakovic’s presentation is scheduled for 11am on 11 September in Business Growth Theatre 3.
