Problem: A demanding sludge application at the 5.6 hectares Flag Fen WWTW in Peterborough meant reliable pumping equipment was needed. Simon Pavitt, Flag Fen’s site supervisor, said: “This can sometimes be a challenging site. It requires highly effective and reliable equipment to treat over 54,000 cubic metres of waste each day from more than a quarter-of-a-million people.”

Solution: Appointed as the main contractor by Anglian Water, Börger has completed the supply and installation of PL300 rotary lobe pumps. Börger also had to carry out the integration into existing control panels, and remove the old equipment. The pumps transfer high volumes of imported sludge, and are said to be a key addition to the site.

Pavitt said: “The large sludge lanes at Flag Fen can make it quite a difficult duty, but Börger’s Pumps (operating at 5-Bar) have proved a good investment and are very easy to maintain.”

This latest installation follows Börger’s work for Anglian Water at Caister-on-Sea where all the sludge processing is handled by the company’s pumps.
