The winners of the 2012 Bosch Technology Horizons Award have been announced at a ceremony held at the Royal Academy of Engineering in London earlier this month.
First prize in the 14 to 18 age group went to Abraham Emdon from Torquay Boys Grammar School who won £700, whilst Cole Soutter from Warwick University took home £1,000 as winner of the 19 to 24 age group.
Each participant was tasked with submitting an imaginative response to an engineering related essay question. Abraham chose to address the effect of human activities on the planet whilst exploring how our behaviour towards the environment is changing. Cole discussed the potential legacy of the Olympic games and the initiatives put in place to ensure it has a lasting and positive impact on the UK.
Two runners-up were also rewarded – Max Lowther from Bishop Luffa School in Chichester named in the 14 to 18 age group, along with Nicola Guttridge from Imperial College London in the 19 to 24 age category. A total of 14 finalists were recognised.
The Award is designed to show young people that engineering offers a rewarding career path.
